SQUADRON LEADER PAUL S. SEYMOUR
Squadron Leader Paul S. Seymour is the Royal Air Force commander, RAF Lakenheath. He is head of branch for the 570 British civilian workers at RAF Lakenheath. He serves as an adviser to the 48th Fighter Wing commander, U.S. Air Force, on all matters concerning the Royal Air Force, Ministry of Defence and the U.K. government policies on defense. He is also the interface between British citizens and the base officials. He is responsible for all land assets and U.K. government interest on the base.
He was educated at Ipswich Grammar School to complete A-Levels in 1974. He then began working for a small independent banking firm in London for eight years, specialising in trustee and executor work. He qualified as a Chartered Banker with a Trustee Diploma in 1981.
Squadron Leader Seymour was commissioned into the Administrative Branch of the Royal Air Force in 1983. After training at the RAF College Cranwell and RAF Hereford, he has had a varied career covering all aspects of the Branch specialisation, including Personnel Management, Facilities Management, Financial Management, Recruiting and Public Relations. He has completed tours of duty in both the United Kingdom and overseas, including RAF Newton, RAF Laarbruch, Headquarters Strike Command, Headquarters Nos 11 and 18 Group, RAF Honington, and recently, the Ministry of Defence in London.
Highlights of his service include three years in Germany in the mid 80’s at the height of the cold war; six months at the Joint Headquarters at High Wycombe during the Gulf War; and a subsequent detachment to the Gulf in 1994 on promotion to Squadron Leader as the Operation Jural Admin Officer. Most recently, he has undertaken a tour of duty on the newly formed Air Force Board Liaison Team, working for the Chief of the Air Staff and other members of the Air Force Board, responsible for developing internal communications within the RAF.
He was posted to his current appointment in February 1999.
